The Road Instruction and
Driver Education (RIDE) Course
Formerly known as the Driver Education Course, The RIDE Course was designed to teach you all about the health, wellness, and education-related benefits we offer to Eligible Drivers. It also contains additional safety instruction, because at the end of the day, you can never have too much safety instruction!
Unlike our Defensive Driving course and the Wellness STEP course, The RIDE Course is offered both online, or in person! Eligible Drivers can take this course once every three years, either online OR in person. Completing the course in-person rewards Eligible Drivers with a payment of $250, and completing the course online rewards Eligible Drivers with a payment of $125!
Please Note: You cannot take BOTH the online and in-person courses within the same 3-year period.
To sign up for the online or in-person course,
please visit The BCF Driver Education Website.
Course Attendance Requirements
1) Being on time and fully present throughout your course is essential.
2) To receive any applicable certifications and to be eligible for payment for completing a course, you must:
3) Be in the classroom while the course is in session
4) Complete all instructions and activities provided
5) Late arrivals or late returns from breaks will result in disqualification from receiving certifications and payment. If this occurs, you will need to register for, attend, and complete a new session.
Payment Eligibility:
Eligible drivers can only receive compensation for each of our Earn While You Learn™ opportunities once every three years, based on the date they last completed that course.
However, there is a special grace period just for our Defensive Driving Course (DDC-6). You can take it as early as 100 days before the three-year course anniversary date and be eligible for payment.
Important information for Eligible Drivers attending this class in-person in the near future:
1) Arrive earlier than your scheduled class time to ensure you find parking – The Black Car Fund Driver Education Center has limited indoor parking and on-street parking may be difficult to find.
2) You MUST bring both your NYC TLC (if you are a TLC-licensed driver) and DMV licenses to registration before class begins. Be sure you do not leave them in your vehicle.
3) PLEASE NOTE: Our Earn While You Learn opportunities are only offered at our two participating locations: The Black Car Fund Driver Education Center and the Independent Drivers Guild Center. Despite what some Defensive Driving Course (DDC) providers have claimed, if you complete a DDC class through a different provider or location, you will not be eligible for the $300 compensation through The Black Car Fund.
