What You’ll Do

As a key member of our Claims team, you’ll take full ownership of your caseload, from intake through resolution, while making informed decisions that balance compliance, care, and cost.

Key responsibilities include:

• Evaluate new claims for compensability, including making 3-point contacts

• Manage both medical and indemnity components of claims

• Evaluate and set reserves

• Coordinate Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs)

• Review medical bills and authorize payments utilizing the NY Medical Treatment Guidelines

• Guide assistant team members on EDI form completion

• Represent cases at hearings when required

• Partner with internal teams and external vendors

• Develop and execute strategic Plans of Action for each claim

• Negotiate and settle claims when appropriate

• Maintain thorough, accurate documentation

• Stay current on industry through training and seminars

• Contribute to special projects and team initiatives

What You Bring

You’re a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and knows how to balance technical expertise with sound judgment.

Required:

• 4+ years of Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjusting experience

• Strong knowledge of New York workers’ compensation laws and regulations

• Familiarity with medical and legal terminology related to injury claims

• Understanding of claims-related financial processes and documentation

• Proficiency with modern office systems and claims platforms

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Education: College degree preferred.

• Experience: 4+ years of experience as a NYS Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster.

• Location: Hybrid remote position based in Long Island City, NY. Those who live beyond a 75-mile radius of Long Island City and live in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut are eligible to work from home.

The Black Car Fund (BCF) is a not-for-profit organization that provides workers’ compensation insurance, safety education, and benefits to for-hire drivers across New York State. We are committed to protecting our drivers and strengthening the industry through education, outreach, and innovative support programs.

About the Role

The Black Car Fund is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Data Quality Analyst to join our IT Services team. The Data Quality Analyst will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of claims data, supporting operational efficiency. Your attention to detail will ensure our claims data supports accurate reporting, compliance with NYS Workers’ Compensation standards, and timely benefits delivery to covered drivers.

Reporting directly to the IT Director, and will collaborate with Claims and Senior Executive leadership.

Note: This position will become hybrid (scheduling based on departmental decisions) following a 90-day onboarding period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review claims reports and documentation to identify missing, incomplete, or inaccurate data.

  • Input, update, and maintain data within internal systems to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with organizational standards.

  • Conduct periodic data quality audits to detect errors and recommend corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with Claims Management to ensure data integrity aligns with operational needs and regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare and distribute data summaries or status reports to support data processing and management decisions.

  • Work closely with technical staff to troubleshoot system-related data issues and contribute to overall process improvements.

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all compliance standards in handling sensitive claimant information.

Who You Are

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business administration, Data Management, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • 3+ years of experience in data entry, data analysis, or claims processing, preferably in insurance, healthcare, or a related field.

  • Understanding of general NYS workers’ compensation claim handling procedures.

  • Knowledge of ICD-10 medical codes

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to analyze reports and translate findings into accurate data input and actionable insights.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

  • Knowledge of SAP Business Objects, Sisense
