State Certified Defensive Driving Course

Earn While You Learn with our 8-hour State Certified Enhanced Defensive Driving Course (DDC)!

Covered Drivers are eligible to receive $300 once every three years upon completion of our DDC. Fulfill your NYC TLC requirements, have the potential to reduce up to a maximum of 3 DMV Points at the discretion of the DMV and possibly reduce your vehicle insurance rate at the discretion of your vehicle insurance provider for FREE.*

Classes are held at two participating locations, The Black Car Fund Driver Education Center and the Independent Drivers Guild Center (IDG Center). The Black Car Safety & Wellness Center was created by The Black Car Fund in 2007 to ensure a safer, more professional workforce within the industry. In 2022, the center moved to a new location in Long Island City and was renamed to The Black Car Fund Driver Education Center. We’ve also partnered with IDG to offer our courses to Drivers affiliated with our Member Bases at their location.

Online registration is required in advance. To choose a date and time, as well as reserve your spot, click here. Classes are subject to change and due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, classes have limited seats. If classes are not posted, they have been closed for maximum occupancy. Check back here every Monday at 11:00 AM for additional updates.

Important information for Covered Drivers attending a class in the near future:

1)     Arrive earlier than your scheduled class time to ensure you find parking – The Black Car Fund Driver Education Center has limited indoor parking and on-street parking may be difficult at either participating locations.

2)     You MUST bring both your NYC TLC and DMV licenses to registration before class begins. Be sure you do not leave them in your vehicle.
